  About each Committee

Committee Chairpersons
Only members of this PTA association shall be eligible to serve in any elective or appointed positions.  The executive board may create standing committees, as it may deem necessary to promote the Objects and carry on the work of the association.  The term of each chairperson shall be 5 years or until the selection of a successor.  The chairperson of each standing committee shall present a plan of work to the executive board for approval.  No committee work shall be undertaken without the consent of the executive board.  The power to form special committees and appoint their member rests with the executive board.  The president shall be a member ex officio of all committees except the nominating committee.

The following standing committees are active in the Bel Air Elementary School PTA:

Boxtops
Collection, clip & count Boxtops for submission.  We earn .10 per Boxtop that goes directly to the General Fund of the PTA.    Volunteers would be greatly appreciated to assist in counting and clipping the boxtops.  This can be done from your home.

Fall Harvest Festival
Truly a fun family event with something for everyone. This is a great opportunity to buy all your fall goodies - pumpkins, mums, gourds, apples, cider, hay bales and corn stalks right here at Bel Air Elementary!  Some of the activities planned are games, crafts, face-painting, cake walk, raffle, food and bake table.   We need volunteers to sell food and bake goods, run games, help setup and cleanup, sell produce and more!  Any amount of time to volunteer is greatly appreciated. This event is a PTA fundraising event to benefit Bel Air Elementary School and a fun family activity.

Family Fun Night
A fun night out for the whole family and is normally held in the spring.  Activities planned are games, cake walk, food and bake table, etc.  We are in need of volunteers to assist in the planning and to work the night of the event.

Gardening
Maintain and create the flowerbeds in the front of and around the school.

Hospitality
Assist with Back to School, American Education Week, Teacher Appreciation Week, End of Year Luncheon.

Legislative
Attend Board of Education, Harford County Council PTA, Town Council meetings.
Apprise the Executive Board of pertinent legislation/topics.  Help organize the action (where applicable) of our PTA.

Membership/Contributions
Chair will send out flyers for membership, coordinate an incentive program for membership (optional), tally names, addresses, phone #'s, e-mails, child's name and teacher along with the funds collected for each membership, make a deposit slip and forward this to the treasurer for deposit, send out membership cards to the paid members, keep an accurate accounting of all transactions, promote membership to BAES and the county at large, attend BAES functions to promote membership.  Nominating
Send out flyers for nominations for PTA officers, collect and total nominations and verify of acceptance of nominations.

Scholarships
Assist in promoting the BAES Scholarship program.  Assist in judging entries received from former BAES students.

Spirit Wear
Assist in promoting and selling BAES apparel.

Volunteer Coordinator
The Vice-president's responsibility or, if applicable, a separate individual, working in conjunction with the assistant principal to promote volunteerism in BAES.
Sends out a volunteer request form, keeps a accounting of all those who volunteer for committees and disburses the names to the appropriate committees. Speaks at back to school night to promote volunteerism at BAES and introduces the committees and their chairs. Helps the hospitality chair in arranging the volunteer recognition luncheon/breakfast.

Yearbook
The yearbook committee's purpose is to publish the Pawprint's Yearbook for Bel Air Elementary School.  There are several components involved in doing this.  First an agreement between Lifetouch and BAES is made.  The price and budget for the present school year is decided.  Volunteer classroom photographers are assigned and a meeting to discuss the needed pictures is made.  Student individual pictures are taken to be used for the class pages.  Pictures are collected throughout the school year from classroom photographers and from parents.  Yearbook photographers are taking pictures throughout the year at school functions and classroom events.  Sales for yearbooks are begun.  The "Pawprints" cover of the yearbook is decided upon from the drawings of the the 5th grade students and is sent to Lifetouch.  Flyers are generated throughout the year for sales and collection of pictures.  Layout of the pages are started mid year.  Sales of personal and business ads begin.  Layout continues after school is out for the summer until the yearbook is due to be sent to Lifetouch.
